Hair Spray Jedi Master Production notes.... Okay a funny story for you... I am a armature graphic artist trying to start my own company and such and I came up with this image about one year ago... It was actually just a test image, I never produced a second one after it. (although I still might). At the time that I made this, I had no knowledge of higher end graphics programs like Combustion, Photoshop, Etc. I filmed myself using a Sony Digital8 camcorder... then (because I was lacking a firewire port) I used a memory stick to capture EVERY single frame of animation. (this took HOURS). The actual sequence, was a pain in my rear too... I think I had to do this like 20 times because I kept dropping the can of hairspray (note that I keep eye contact with he camera). This project could have been so much easier now that I have better knowledge of graphics, but I had to go in and draw frame by frame the blade using Corel Photopaint. I simply just used the polygon tool and guessed where I thought the blade should be and blurred it at the appropriate speeds. Then I went back and added lens flares, and blurred out the edges to give it the soft hue. The file size could have been seriously reduced if I had used Adobe Image ready, but hey, like I said, I didn't know what I was doing at the time... So there you have it... I was a wannabe star wars kid myself at one time, although my video didn't quite get as much popularity as our good friend Ghyslain. (Whom I have nothing but respect for!) My days now are spend designing flyers for parties and not light saber images... although is anyone WANTS their likeness done with a lightsaber, I do GREAT still shots... contact me! na0ki@na0ki.com
Star War Kid - VSEHow was it made? The long answer is as follows. After watching the Remix version and the original version a few times I noticed a few points in the original where The Kid was at similar places on the screen but was facing different directions. I found two different sections of the video, each about 12 seconds long and layered them over the top of each other in Premiere and watched the clip to see how they lined up. As you know it was pretty darn close. To make this work one kid had to be pulled out of his video and placed into the background of the other Kid, and then he had to be moved around or placed in front of or behind the other Kid. Normally someone like myself would use a combination of After Effects and other tools to separate out the The Kids from their backgrounds and drop in the saber effects. Unfortunately because the source video is so low quality it was impossible to do this. The painful answer was to do what I did. I cut the two layers of Kid video into 2 second intervals, to make the file sizes manageable, and I exported each clip to Filmstrip format and then opened those in Photoshop. I combined the two clips into one layered image file and then went about the long, long task of frame by frame cutting out each Kid, placing each of them into a clean background, and then adding the saber effects. Also, because the 2 Kids come from two completely different bits of tape they also required a fair amount of color correction so it looked a little more like they're in the same room at the same time. Its better than it was, but if you look now at the video you can still see one of the clones' clothes is darker than the other. Oh well, I'm sure The Kid didn't white balance his camera before he started getting his Maul on anyway. So to continue. Once I separated and then recombined all the elements in Photoshop I repeated the work for the remaining 10 seconds of video. I would estimate on average it took about 12 hours per 2 seconds of video. So it took me a while to get it done. I imported the finished filmstrip files back into Premiere and cut them together with the text and additional video elements and it was done! Except for the sound effects. I downloaded those from numerous places around the web. That's pretty much it. Enjoy! |
